Article: Look back, look forward, look smart.

Look back, look forward, look smart.

Look back, look forward, look smart.

Whilst some are sad that weddings etc are generally seated for the foreseeable future, there are a few chaps I know and know of, who are delighted not to have to make a show of themselves by dancing. If he is you, you can skip the rest of this piece. This is of the fun guys not the mushrooms.

This is for the guys that will be tapping their shiny shoes under the table, the ones who don’t just stand up at events but stand out, for the guy who will be perfectly dressed at a garden party and can take the heat and look suitably cool in a suit. This, young man, is for you.

You’ll already have a dance card full of occasions where you wore a black tie, and perhaps even a white, but now – now, after the year or so we have all been through, you can aim for a more frivolous outfit.

A jacquard evening jacket which isn’t the usual black. Choose from tantilizing teal green version with a wave design or the fabulous floral blue which has a touch of Chinoiserie about it – which, my friends, will be huge, HUGE I tell you when the 1920’s Art Deco revival hits later this year.

Dressing up again is new to us and whether at a party the likes of The Great Gatsby would host or one where we are at a table of intellects, acting and looking the part is key. Who doesn’t want to be remembered after a great night out? Especially as gatherings are smaller and more intimate for want of a better term.

You can be subtle in your approach to bow ties or go all out, we certainly have plenty to choose from. And if you are stepping out of your own shadow and want a gentle entrance onto the world, try a plain jacket with one of the more colourful ties and a pocket square perhaps?

I never want to be ‘the woman in the black dress’ (like 98% of the other female guests) so don’t be that guy! And while I am all for separate dressing rooms, you and your date / partner should at least look like you are going to the same event.

Coordinate, don’t imitate. Oh, and my last word? Have a great time, and tag on your grid #gagliardigents
