Biella has a history of making fabric which dates back about 1000 years.

The water in the region, which flows from the alps, has been used to wash and soften raw ingredients to create fine fabrics, predominantly wool, for centuries.

The Cerruti fashion house was originally established in 1967 by Nino Cerruti. It was coined ‘Cerruti 1881’ by his grandfather who founded the Mill we know today in Italy in 1881. They pride themselves on marrying innovation and technology with he finest of raw materials. Their expertise in dyeing can be seen though the beautiful colouring of their fabric.

In 1910 Ermenegildo Zegna founded a wool mill in the Northern town of Trivero. It is now still a family run business focused on the best quality natural fibres, imported directly from the source and expertly woven in Italy. Apart from their commitment to creating beautiful fabrics, the group is highly invested in Sustainability and they run a multitude of initiatives in this area.

Now in is sixth generation of family-owned leadership, Loro Piana has been around since the early 1800s. As a mill they focus on acquiring some of the most precious raw materials from the most remote places in the world, all whilst maintaining and sustaining biodiversity from these habitats.

Vitale Barberis Canonico was founded in 1663, and it is synonymous with its use of pure flannel and mohair-blend cloths. In 2017 it celebrated its 350th anniversary, currently being run by the thirteenth generation within the family. The Mill is best at reinventing itself and keeping up with trends and changes in the industry, and reinterpreting its vast archives by making small changes in design, weight or colour.

REDA, the pioneer in sustainable manufacturing was founded in 1865 by Carlo Reda. It is also family-owned and it operates vertically, meaning every step from farm to fabric is controlled by the Mill. What sets REDA apart is their focus on technical fabrics, from smart stretch to resistant quality and elasticity through CompAct3 technology.
